The show focuses on one attempt that was made during the tensions in the state where people were against Nehru and the Congress party for not giving Maharashtra an autonomous status. But in reality, there were nearly five assassination attempts made on the former PM. Here’s all you need to know about them.
1. The first one in 1947
The first attempt on Nehru was during the partition, when he was visiting the north-eastern province. Someone tried to shoot at the PM, while he was travelling by his car.
2. In 1948
Three gang members who have plotted to kill Nehru in Delhi were arrested at Dharamshala, in Lakhisarai, Bihar. The gang members were equipped with pistols, rifles and bombs to put an end to the PM.
3. In 1953
In a third attempt, there were bombs placed on the tracks of the train that Nehru was travelling by. The plan was however foiled when the bombs got discovered in time.
There are reports which suggest that a rickshaw puller tried to stab Nehru, while the latter was travelling by car, in Nagpur.
5. In 1956
This is the event which has been highlighted in Hutatma season 2. An attempt to murder Nehru was made in 1956 in Bombay. He became a victim of a stone-throwing mob at a public gathering. But the police got the situation under control and saved the PM.
