Rajasthan Political Crisis: Govt Not Acting Independently, Says Chidambaram
Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said that Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra does not seem to be acting independently.
In an exclusive interview, Congress leader P Chidambaram said that Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra does not seem to be acting independently. When asked about whether the governor is working under pressure, he said, “I cannot say who is applying pressure. Is the Central government applying pressure or the BJP leadership is applying pressure or the local state BJP is applying pressure, I cannot say? All I can say is that he does not seem to be acting independently and in obedience to the law. And I repeat law is his only master and he must go back and revisit the judgment which I quoted paragraph 162.”
Protesting over the ongoing political instability in Rajasthan, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, along with other leaders, staged a demonstration outside the Raj Bhawans in the country to highlight the gravity of the issue and said he is astonished by the attitude of the Governor of Rajasthan. He said that the governor is only a formal instrument to sign and issue summons to the MLAs. “If a chief minister, who is accused of not enjoying a majority, wants to prove his majority, he is entitled to call a session at the earliest to prove it.”
