No Dhoni, No Match: Chacha Chicago To Stop Travelling For Cricket
MS Dhoni’s superfan plans to visit Ranchi once the COVID-19 crisis is over.
“Dhoni has retired and so have I,” said Mohammad Bashir Bozai, fondly known as Chacha Chicago, a superfan of the recently retired Indian cricketer. The Karachi-born, Chicago resident used to travel to every India-Pakistan encounter at ICC events and face criticism from Pakistani fans who would question his allegiance. Bashir has said that travelling to those matches doesn’t make any sense, now that MS Dhoni has retired from international cricket.
The former Indian captain announced his retirement via Instagram on August 15, 2020. His announcement was shortly followed by that of Suresh Raina. “All great players have to call time one day but his retiring makes me sad and brings back a lot of precious memories. He deserved a grand send-off but again he is beyond that,” said Bashir. When the tickets for the 2011 World Cup semi-final between India and Pakistan were sold out, it was Dhoni who had arranged a pass for Bashir.
