Revolutionary poet and activist Varavara Rao has been in jail since 2018 under the charges of having a connection in the Bhima-Koregaon case. According to recent reports, Rao has tested positive for COVID-19 virus and his family members allege that they are not provided with proper information regarding his health. Reporters spoke with the activist’s nephew, Venugopal Rao to know the exact details. He told the reporters that they had applied for bail on grounds of COVID-19 infection and Varavara Rao’s age.
However, the NIA rejected their plea stating that Rao is trying to take undue advantage of the ongoing scenario. The case was earlier handled by the Pune City Police, which was later moved to the SIT (Special Investigation Team) formed by the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. Now the NIA (National Investigation Agency) has taken charge of the case. Venugopal Rao also mentioned that the case is a fabricated one and Varavara Rao has been plotted against.
