Basu Poribar, the latest film by veteran director Suman Ghosh, is now streaming on ZEE5, so be sure to watch it soon, if you haven’t yet. Featuring an epic cast, the film tells the tale of a traditional Bengali family who reunites after several years in their grand ancestral home, Komolini. Here’s a look at all the main characters of the film.

You can watch the movie right here:

Pranabendu or Pranab, played by the inimitable Soumitra Chatterjee, is the the patriarch and head of the Basu family. He is a retired barrister who has returned to his home in Bengal from England, and now has settled down to live a comfortable and lavish lifestyle in his ancestral house, Komolini. He loves reminiscing about the good old days, although his present days seem to be quite peaceful and problem-free too.

Manjari (played by Aparna Sen) is Pranab’s wife of 50 years. They seem to enjoy a happy marriage, and she now remains busy running the household and looking at the upkeep of Komolini. Her children are married and live in different cities across the world, and she hasn’t seen them all together under one roof in years until their golden anniversary.

Tublu (played by Saswata Chatterjee) is the son of Pranab’s older brother, and lives in Komolini with his mother. Their section of the family is certainly not as well off as Manjari and Pranab’s, and Tublu clearly disapproves of many of their practices and lifestyle habits. He loves music and is a talented singer.

Mamoni (played by Rituparna Sengupta) is Pranab and Manjari’s eldest daughter. She is married and now lives in Mumbai with her family. Throughout the film, we can tell that she is going through a troubled phase in her marriage, and fights with her husband quite a lot over the phone! She has several happy memories of her childhood in Komolini.

Raja (played by Jisshu Sengupta) is Pranab and Manjari’s younger son. He is an IT engineer and now lives in America with his wife. He is a happy-go-lucky sort, and loves nothing more than to sit back, chill, and reminisce with his family members.

Roshni (played by Sreenanda Shankar) is Raja’s wife. She visits Komolini for the first time on the occasion of Pranab and Manjari’s golden anniversary. She is fairly new to the family, and gets a greater insight into the Basu family’s history and background during this reunion.

Tonu, played by Kaushik Sen, is Pranab and Manjari’s elder son. He has a regular job in the city, and lives a regular life with his wife and young son. However, he hides a secret that not even his wife has picked up on. Watch the film to find out what it is!

Pompi, played by Sudiptaa Chakraborty, is Tonu’s wife. She seems satisfied enough with her life with her husband, son and mother-in-law, and if she has any issues, she certainly doesn’t show them. Pompi is quite enamoured by the Basus in Komolini, and is impressed with their aristocracy and wealth.
