The Kanpur encounter incident keeps getting murkier day by day. Now, a letter that has gone viral on social media seems to indicate that Bilhaur Circle Officer (CO) Devendra Mishra, who was amongst the eight cops killed in the encounter, had complained about the Station House Officer (SHO) Vinay Tiwari’s links with history-sheeter Vikas Dubey several times and that the complaints had gone unheard. The Uttar Pradesh Police on Saturday (July 4) suspended the SHO over suspicions that he had tipped off the absconding gangster on the night of the encounter.

Through the letter, Mishra had complained that Tiwari was in collusion with Vikas Dubey and had warned of serious consequences if no action was taken against him. It is also being said that the role of former Kanpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anant Dev will also be investigated in this case. The letter in question is dated March 14, 2020, and shows CO Devendra Mishra writing to SSP Anant Dev expressing his apprehensions about a possible major attack from gangster Vikas Dubey.
