India Reports Record 96,551 COVID-19 Cases, Tally Breaches 4.5 Million Mark

There are 943,480 active coronavirus infected cases at present in the country.

Between Thursday and Friday morning, India recorded its highest spike in COVID-19 cases with a rise of 96,551 in the tally of those affected by the disease. According to the Health Ministry data, the latest numbers take the total number of those who have contracted the disease till now, to 4,562,415. There have been 1,209 COVID deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s death toll to 76,271.

The number of those who have recovered from the coronavirus disease till now is 3,542,664 and that means the country’s recovery rate stands at a healthy 77.64%. India currently stands as the world’s second most affected country due to COVID-19. It was only recently that it overtook Brazil and it’s only the United States with its 6.5 million cases that stands ahead of it. In vaccine news, the trials for Oxford University’s AstraZeneca vaccine were halted recently after a patient developed a severe neurological disease.
