India Protests Pakistan’s Attempts To Convert Gurudwara Into Mosque
The gurudwara was the site where Bhai Taru Singh ji attained martyrdom.
India has lodged a strong protest against Pakistan over reports of attempts being made in Lahore to turn a gurudwara into a mosque. The site in question is the Sikh Gurudwara at Naulakha Bazaar in Lahore, where Bhai Taru Singh ji was martyred in 1745. In its protest with the Pakistan High Commission, India said that the gurudwara “is a place of reverence and considered sacred by the Sikh community” and that “this incident has been viewed with a grave concern in the country.”
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs, said in a statement, “India expressed its concerns in strongest terms on this incident and called upon Pakistan to investigate the matter and take immediate remedial measures. Pakistan was also called upon to look after the safety, security and well-being of its minority communities including protection of their religious rights and cultural heritage.” Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has also condemned the attempts to convert the gurudwara into a mosque.
