IAF Rescues Man Stuck In Wastewater Weir In Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur
On August 17 morning, Indian Air Force chopper Mi-17 airlifted the man, who held on to a tree for 16 hours to save himself
A man in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur was rescued by personnel of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Monday morning (August 17). He was stranded at Khutaghat Dam near Bilaspur due to heavy rain and rising level of dam water. A Mi-17 chopper of the IAF was sent for the rescue mission. The man had jumped into the wastewater weir last evening but was unable to come out due to the heavy flow of the water. He sat on a stone for 16 hours, holding onto a tree to save himself. The Khutaghat Dam is a popular picnic spot in Chhattisgarh and there were a number of visitors on Sunday (August 16).
In the video, the man can be seen holding on to a tree trunk as water gushes past. “Indian Air Force chopper today rescued a man identified as Jitendra Kashyap, at Khutaghat Dam. Due to heavy flow in the dam, IAF was requested to carry out a rescue operation,” Dipanshu Kabra, Inspector-General (IG), Bilaspur Range told. Levels of most water bodies in the state have risen and rivers like the Sabari are in spate as heavy rainfall pounded Chhattisgarh for the last few days. Parts of Sukma district and surrounding areas have been flooded. An alert has been issued in the areas affected by Godavari rivers also.
