Heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in many parts of the country. While many cities are experiencing waterlogging, villages along rivers are being inundated with floodwaters. Among the worst affected states are Assam, Bihar and Uttarakhand. In fact, Uttarakhand has been given a red alert warning by weather agencies for the next 48 hours. In the state’s Pithoragarh town, floodwaters have caused landslides as well as the destruction of various structures in which at least one person has died till now.

Around 12 districts in Bihar have come under the fury of floods. Mumbai too has been experiencing flood-like situations in a few low-lying areas. However, the worst-hit state in the country remains Assam, where an estimated 12 lakh people have been affected by floods caused by heavy rains and the subsequent rise in water levels of rivers. Relief work and rescue operations are constantly going on in those parts of the country since the past few days.
