Have You Watched ZEE5 Original Daab Chingri Yet? We Tell You Why You Should
From Mughlai to Continental, and from Mexican to Japanese – we might be devouring all sorts of cuisines, but when it comes to comfort food, nothing beats the taste of food cooked by our moms and grandmoms. Their special dishes – veg or non-veg –will forever remain in our tastebuds, long after they have left us. ZEE5 Original film Daab Chingri, while dealing with important social issues like abandoning parents, also reminds us of our mom and grandmom’s cooking skills which we won’t ever be able to replicate.
Starring Sandhya Roy, Ishaa Saha, Shaheb Bhattacharjee and Paran Bandopadhyay in lead roles, Daab Chingri revolves around the residents of an old-age home. They live like a close-knit family and run a home-delivery service, Thakurmar Haanri, to help meet expenses. Tragedy strikes when the owner of the old-age home, who delivers the food cooked by the residents, is diagnosed with cancer. Sohini (played by Ishaa Saha) who lives in a hostel away from her parents and helps the residents of the old-age home get orders for food delivery, chips in with big party orders. They are excellent cooks and once people taste their food, they keep wanting for more. But Sohini has to battle with Rishi (played by Shaheb Bhattacharjee) who runs a large catering company, who is tired of losing orders to Thakurmar Haanri and wants to buy them, taking advantage of their situation.
When Sohini gets an order for Ranjan’s (played by Kushal Chakrabarty), it comes with a catch. He wants daab chingri in the menu. But Ava, who is the only one who knows how to make the dish, refuses to cook it. But what is the reason? Will she have a change of heart? Will the residents of the old-age home manage to battle all odds and raise enough money for the old-age home owner’s treatment? You will have to watch the movie to find out.
Daab Chingri also raises another important social question – that of sending ageing parents to old-age homes while the children enjoy their lives, not caring much about their parents. While in their sunset years, the elders crave for their children and grandchildren, they are forced to stay away from them. The ZEE5 Original stands out with flawless performances by the lead actors and a completely relatable story. The cooking scenes will surely make you salivate.
