Housie

1/5

Remember the times which were simpler? When going out to play with friends was an actual thing? Or if it rained, you gathered friends and family and played a board game instead? Well, Sega actor Nithya Menen’s recent Instagram post took us back to those days. In the post, she confessed to playing Housie, a popular board game, for the first time, with her co-stars from her upcoming movie – Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Vidya Balan and Kirti Kulhari – and she won too. Feel like trying out some board games? Let’s introduce you to some timeless and popular classics.

A common game at office parties, playing Housie is simple. Get your Housie ticket. It will have columns which will have numbers written on them. When the caller calls out the numbers, strike out the ones that are mentioned in your ticket. If the numbers fill out a row, call out immediately to become the winner.

Scrabble

2/5

One of the most favourite word games, in Scrabble, you score points by placing tiles or blocks with a single letter on a board which is divided into 15×15 grid of squares. You must place the tiles in such a manner that they form a legitimate word, whether read left to right in rows or downward in columns. A perfect one for those who love to read, or pick up new words.

Monopoly

3/5

Now a part of pop culture, Monopoly is for those with a business bent of mind. Here you move around the game board, trading and buying properties and developing them. You collect rent from your opponents and eventually try to drive them into bankruptcy. And oh yeah, be careful or you might land up in ‘jail’ from where you cannot be released until and unless you meet one of the several conditions. Get going, then.

Scotland Yard

4/5

Love crime and crime fiction? Then this is the right game for you. In this one, the detective has to find the thief across a board which has London’s map printed on it. Use the tokens for the various modes of transport and criss-cross across London to nab the thief.

Ludo

5/5

Four colours. Four players (or two, depending on how many people you have), this game is so popular that there are scores of Ludo apps which you can download on your phone and play. But of course, it all the more fun if you use a board to play. Throw the dice and move ahead with your token till you complete the entire board.
