Hathras Gang Rape Case: Uttar Pradesh Police Cremates Victim’s Body Without Family’s Consent

The family members of the victim argued with the cops, threw themselves on the hood of the ambulance but the police forcibly cremated her body.

The body of the 20-year-old Dalit woman who was gang-raped and murdered allegedly by four upper-caste men in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, was cremated at 2.45 am on Wednesday, September 30. The victim’s family claimed that the Uttar Pradesh Police forcibly performed the last rites even after they repeatedly requested them to bring back her body home for the last time. Sources also allege that the women’s family members and relatives were locked up in their homes during the entire incident.

The family members tried everything to get the last look of the women. They argued with the cops, female relatives even threw themselves on the hood of the ambulance carrying the body while her mother was weeping helplessly as the police took her daughter’s body straight to cremation. The women’s father and brothers sat in protest but they were taken away by the cops.
