Guna Incident Of Police Brutality On Dalit Couple Raises Humanitarian Questions
Videos show police beating the couple while their children cry profusely.
The shocking and disturbing video of an incident of police brutality has come out of Guna in Madhya Pradesh where a Dalit couple was beaten and dragged by the police after they consumed pesticides to resist an anti-encroachment drive on Tuesday. Another video shows the small children of the couple crying profusely while hugging their mother. These videos, more than anything, raise questions about humanity and also throw light on how rampant police brutality is in India.
The couple is currently being treated in the hospital, while the police personnel responsible for the incident have been suspended. Their family had reportedly encroached upon parts of the 45-bigha land allotted for the construction of a government college on the outskirts of Guna. “When officials reached the spot, while the main encroacher Gappu Pardhi disappeared from there, the Ahirwar family consumed pesticide,” said Collecter S. Vishwanathan, before he was suspended today.
