Goyenda Ginni: Here’s how to sharpen your detective skills and be as smart as Parama!

The Zee Bangla TV serial Goyenda Ginni remains a a favourite show among audiences even today! The exciting detective TV show  starred actor Indrani Haldar as Parama Mitra, the main character. Parama was a housewife who found her calling in professional detective work. She juggled this career and her domestic duties with admirable finesse! When you see her in the show, you know exactly how and why she could do what she did. Sharp, wise and incredibly perceptive, Parama was an excellent detective in every way and even solved mysteries that had perplexed the police with her signature skills. Here are some ways that you too can sharpen your detective chops and be as brilliant as her.

1. Practise focusing

Get into the habit of focusing your attention and registering what your senses perceive, accurately. Actively observe every detail of your surroundings and commit what you find to memory. Most of us are wrapped up in our own heads, and don’t notice the subtle elements that stare into our faces! Practise focusing your attention and change this pattern.

2. Meditate regularly

What does meditation have to do with detective skills? Well, let’s just say everything! When we meditate, we get into the practice of being aware, mindful, and present. This is the key to developing a mind that is sharp and able to work out puzzles and solve mysteries– just like Parama. So start meditating regularly, daily if possible. It does not have to be for hours at end– even 10 minutes for each session go a long way.

3. Listen, analyse and question

Now that you have started observing more, make it a habit to critically analyse what you see and hear, and question it! Try to look at how or why something is, rather than accepting it at face value. You will quickly learn that often, you can glean more from what a person isn’t saying rather than what they openly express. Listen more to understand more. If there is one lesson in Detection 101 that we got from Parama, it is this!

4. Keep up with what’s going on around you

Make it your business to read the news everyday, stay abreast of current affairs and very importantly– be aware of what’s happening around you! From your neighbours next door to your neighbours across the border– what are their lives like and what makes them tick? Remember, your curiosity pushes you to stay on top of your investigative game, so take an interest in these!
