Shortly after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced that it would move a no-confidence motion against the Congress governed Rajasthan government, the state’s chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that he would move a motion of confidence in the Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha (Legislative assembly), in a special session on Friday at 3 pm. The CM is keen on a floor test to showcase his party’s unity to the BJP.

This comes just a few days after Gehlot and his former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot patched up, following a month of the latter rebelling against the former.

In the Congress Legislature Party meeting yesterday, Gehlot said that he could have shown his majority and won even without the support of Pilot and his 18 MLAs, but that would not make him happy. Pilot, also present there, responded in his own way saying that he was neither a ‘nikamma’, nor a ‘nikaara’, referring to earlier allegations made by the 69-year-old CM on him. The party’s general secretary KC Venugopal stressed that there is no need for any more post-mortem on the internal party crisis.

Govind Singh Dotasara, newly appointed as the president of the Rajasthan Congress Committee, blamed the BJP for adopting the age-old British method of manipulating and dividing people.

Former Rajasthan CM and BJP leader Vasundhara Raje Scindia responded to the Congress, saying that the opponent party only works for its own selfish motives and not for the public.

If Gehlot gets his majority in the test in the house today, he will continue to rule the state.
