Former Malaysian PM Najib Razak Found Guilty Of All Charges In First 1MDB Trial
Two-hour ruling read by the judge before monumental judgment.
A Malaysian court has pronounced former Prime Minister Najib Razak guilty in his first corruption trial regarding the multibillion-dollar looting of the 1MDB investment fund. “I find the accused guilty and convict the accused of all seven charges,” Judge Mohamad Nazlan Ghazali said after spending two hours to read out his ruling. Charges on Razak include criminal breach of trust, money laundering and abuse of power. The former Prime Minister has decided to appeal the judgement.
Under the Malaysian 1MDB scandal, Najib Razak’s wife and a few other officials from his party have also been charged. Razak has till now maintained that he has not done anything wrong. He says that he was misled by rogue bankers and has also called the case against him political. He wrote on Facebook yesterday, “From day one, I have said this is the chance for me to clear my name. After this, we will go to the Court of Appeal. I am ready.”
