Fire Breaks Out At Hotel Fortune In South Mumbai ; 25 Doctors Rescued
A fire broke out in the late hours of Wednesday, May 27, in Hotel Fortune of Mumbai. Officials reported that it was confined to the first three floors of the hotel. It started around 11 p.m. and the fire department was able to bring the fire under control after nearly three hours, around 1:40 a.m. The flames were contained in the electric wiring, cables in the electrical duct, false ceiling in the lobby, and the common passages on the first three floors. The cooling operation is underway.
The five-storey hotel was being used as temporary accommodation for emergency and essential service staffers, including doctors and nurses. After the fire broke out, 25 resident doctors and three others were rescued. No casualties have been reported yet. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made temporary arrangements for the accommodation and food for the people who were stranded in the hotel fire, including the hotel staff.
