FIR Lodged Against BJP MLA Mahesh Negi For Rape
Uttarakhand MLA Mahesh Negi has been booked for rape and criminal intimidation, while his wife is accused of accepting bribes
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Mahesh Negi has been booked by the Uttarakhand Police on charges of rape. A first investigation report (FIR) has also been lodged against his wife Rita Negi, who is accused of taking bribes to facilitate promotions.
The legislator has been charged under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The FIR was registered on the direction of the court, after the victim wrote a letter to the law authorities requesting for an official complaint registration against the couple.
Negi has denied the allegations levied on him by the woman, that also includes fathering her child. Calling this a part of a conspiracy to defame him, he believes that some members of the Congress party may be involved in this.
Prior to this, the Nainital High Court had put a stop order on the arrest of the victim, after the MLA’s wife filed a case against the woman for blackmailing Negi and attempting an extortion of rupees five crores. The accused is meanwhile gathering evidence and plans to appeal to the court in this matter.
