COVID-19: Donald Trump Says Moderna Vaccine Has Entered Final Testing Stage
The President hopes that the vaccine will be ready to launch by the end of the year.
US President Donald Trump has announced that COVID-19 vaccine that’s under development at Moderna has entered the third and final stage of trials. A vaccine by the company Pfizer too has reached the final stage of testing and the President hopes that it will be ready for deployment across the country and the world by the end of the year. The final stage involves 30,000-subject trials of the vaccine. Both candidates rely on new technology that allows for faster development and manufacturing than older vaccines.
The Donald Trump administration is actually funding the development of both these vaccines. While Moderna has been granted nearly $1 billion by the federal government, Pfizer has received $2 billion in exchange for an agreement to sell vaccines to 5 crore people in the US. Expert Anthony Fauci who has been at the forefront of the movement to counter the coronavirus in the US has said that initial results of the Moderna trial could be out as early as November.
