COVID-19: Aviation Sector Unlikely To Recover Until 2023 After Pandemic Slump

Increasing consensus says that traffic is unlikely to recover to 2019 levels until 2023-2024 as the pace of ground-level air-travel activities slow down.

A survey done by Vistara Airlines on passengers’ intention to fly back says that 41 percent of total customers intend to fly within the next one month, while 65 percent of customers intend to fly within the next six months. So, confidence could be back in the sky but it can take time. Out of the international passengers, over 11 per cent want to visit the United Kingdom (UK), while 10 percent want to visit Dubai first.

13 percent of people want to visit Singapore as soon as international travel is allowed. But, there are fears in the minds of passengers as 31 percent of flyers fear the exposure of COVID-19 during the journey on a flight. Meanwhile, 24 percent of passengers are afraid of fellow passengers not adhering to the health and safety protocols. Out of the total, around 15 percent passengers are wary of high airfares as well.
