Island Love

1/7

Does your idea of a great vacation mean strutting off to some place secluded, with not too many people in sight? Well, in that case, the Malaysian island of Langkawi could be a perfect destination for you. Nakshtram star Pragya Jaiswal was there too recently, enjoying a calm vacay with her sister in this island paradise located off the coast of Penang. If you are there too, check out these fabulous locations that are a must-visit.

Visit The Eagle Square

2/7

Known as Dataran Lang in Malay, this square is situated in Kuah, the main town of the island. Tourists flock to this huge eagle statue (just like Pragya and her sister did here) for umpteen photo ops. The statue, which is about 12 metres, is surrounded by other attractions like fountains, pretty bridges, cafes, etc.

Ride The Cable Car

3/7

When in Lankawi, you need to hop on the cable car for an exhilarating 15-minute ride that will take you to the top of Mount Mat Cincang. Enjoy glimpses of rainforests and waterfalls as you zip along. At the peak is an observatory deck from where you can even see all the way to Sumatra on a clear day.

Sign Up For A Mangrove Tour

4/7

Being an island, Lankawi is covered in mangroves. Explore them with the help of a boat tour. The Kilim Geoforest Park is a must visit. Boat rides usually last between two and three hours and allow you to get off at certain spots in the mangrove forests so that you can walk amidst nature.

Go For A Spa

5/7

For a natural hot water spring, you can go to Air Hangat (literally, hot water in Malay) village which is dotted with natural salt water hot springs where you can soak. Or check out one of the many spas in the area as per your budget for some relaxation.

Go To Durian Perangin

6/7

One of the prettiest and most popular waterfalls that dot the island, this waterfall consists of a multi-layered cataract. So as you hike up, you can stop at various levels and enjoy the view. For a soothing experience, swim at the rock pool at the base of the falls.

Be A Beach Bum

7/7

You can’t be in Lankawi and not check out its many beaches. Whether you like watching the sunset or doing water sports. If you like offbeat and secluded beaches, the Tanjung Rhu beach is a good place to visit as it is not frequented by tourists. Hire a boat and visit the Gua Cherita, which means the Cave of Stories in Malay. This is supposed to be the place where a Chinese princess was taken by the mythical creature Garuda.
