Birthday Special: Ram Charan Konidela, The Man Who Outgrew His Family Name And Power
March 26 marks a celebration for many people across the two Telugu-speaking folks. If August 22nd is as good as a state-wide holiday, today is a follow up to it. Because it is Mega Star Chiranjeevi‘s only son, Ram Charan‘s birthday. You can call him Ram Charan Teja, Ram Konidela, Cherry, Charan or whatever you please. That’s the admiration and adulation that he has earned from his fans and followers. Being born into the first families of Tollywood, Ram is the son of Chiranjeevi and Allu Surekha.
Watch the birthday boy in his debut film, Chirutha (2007), on ZEE5:
This megastar kid is also the grandson of a legendary and iconic comedian, Allu Ramalingaiah. Nagendra Babu, hailed as Shahenshah of the TV world, and Pawan Kalyan, ‘worshipped’ as the Power star, happen to be Ram’s uncles. Ace actor Allu Arjun is his first cousin and star actors like Rana Daggubatti, Naga Chaitanya and Jr NTR happen to be his close confidantes. What comes with these names is pressure and presupposition that we cannot even begin to imagine.
Stepping out into showbiz from the umbrella of such widely known personalities gave Ram Charan a ground to exhibit his skills, surely. But it also put the youngster under immense pressure and criticism. Being the son of Megastar Chiranjeevi, the poor Ram was directly compared to a man who we cannot even talk about without a feeling of respect in everyday conversation. Despite the harsh realities that he faced, Ram found a way to rise above his surname.
Today, as the actor turns 35, Ram Charan is an actor, a producer, and an entrepreneur who promises a fruitful future. Right from his debut film, Puri Jagannadh’s Chirutha, Ram was under a critical gaze. Yet, he managed to win the hearts of the audiences and the film ran for 100 days across several centres. The actor shut down many critics when he came out in full strength in his second venture, SS Rajamouli’s Magadheera also starring Kajal Aggarwal. And then, there was no looking back.
Ram’s following films, Orange and Racha made him one of the strongest contemporary actors. After witnessing this high, he saw back-to-back lows with Naayak and Zanjeer, which was a bilingual Telugu-Hindi film starring Priyanka Chopra. While remakes weren’t a fashion back in 2013, we are sure his Bollywood debut would have roared louder than a lion if it was made today. However, these setbacks seem to have only made him stronger and returned with a bang.
This time around, Ram was a more polished performer. While his dancing skills had always garnered applause, Ram now had started to win big – at the box office and the critics’ hearts. Finally, in 2018, Ram changed the game forever with Sukumar’s Rangasthalam. That was when everyone was convinced that the Konidela boy has ‘arrived’. Now, as we talk, the actor is all set to crash all boundaries and become bigger with his next venture, RRR with Jr NTR.
With Rangasthalam becoming the third highest-grossing Telugu film, we’re excited to see the fate of RRR. If you think Ram Charan is the actor we should be proud of, let’s talk about his other ventures. Ram made his debut as a producer to bankroll his father’s 150th film and set up Konidela Production Company. Post that, he established himself as a trustworthy producer by financing the biggest Telugu film so far, Chiranjeevi’s Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy.
Having been a part of Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list twice, Ram has also bagged multiple Filmfare awards along with two Nandi Awards. Apart from these, the perfectly chiselled hunk is also an equestrian enthusiast. He owns a polo team named Ram Charan Hyderabad Polo Riding Club. He baritone man is also the spokesman for the obstacle running series Devil’s Circuit.
As we all know, kindness and service run in the Konidela blood. Ram set up TruJet, an aircraft service which primarily aims at providing easier commute to pilgrims, to destinations like Tirupati. As the Telugu folks bless him in their prayers today, Ram donated Rs. 70 lacs to government, taking inspiration from his uncle, Pawan Kalyan. This is his attempt in helping the government to serve the COVID-19 victims better.
With his next big film hitting the theatres in January 2021, you can watch his entertaining Bruce Lee: The Fighter on ZEE5, in the meantime. We wish Ram Charan the happiest birthday and hope that he continues to take the Konidela name several notches higher.
