Born as Dileep Kumar on January 6, 1967, the young musician adopted Qadiryya Tariqa (a school of Sufism) and became Allarakha Rahman. Professionally known as AR Rahman, he has been honoured with six National Awards, two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA Award. In 2010, the highest civilian honour was bestowed upon the maestro, with a Padma Bhushan.
