Beirut Explosions: India To Send Relief, Humanitarian Material to Lebanon
India has also sent essential medical items to the country to combat COVID-19.
A week after the massive blast in Beirut, Lebanon that killed over 150 people and destroyed over 3 lakh homes, India has announced that it will be sending relief and humanitarian material to the said country. India is following in on the footsteps of a number of nations from around the world that have extended a helping hand after the unfortunate incident took place on August 4. PS Tirumurti, Permanent Representative of India at the United Nations, commended the spirit of the locals and authorities for their “resilience” and “dedication” while coping with the tragedy.
Revealing that India has already sent COVID-19 related materials to Lebanon, he said, “India has recently sent Lebanon essential medical items to combat COVID-19 – we are immediately sending more relief and humanitarian material of medicine, foodstuff and other essential items to do whatever we can to alleviate the difficulties on ground. We are in discussion with the Government of Lebanon on how we can contribute further and provide additional support.”
