1. No one size fits all

It has been some time since the ill-fated honeymoon of Jash (played by Suman Dey) and Shabnam (played by Manali Dey) in the latest Bengali TV serial Nakshi Kantha where Swapnadip’s men drowned Shabnam. While she survived, her unconscious body washed ashore in a different beach where she was found by Debdeep and his family. They got her back to Kolkata and nursed her back to health. The only problem is that Shabnam has lost her memory and is unable to recall anything from the past. Jash, in the meantime, has been through agonising heartbreak and pain thinking Shabnam is no longer alive. A complete mess, he has turned to Rohini and is even planning to marry her because each time he stays alone he is reminded of Shabnam. Have you gone through similar loss? Here are a few ways in which you can heal.

Different people take different amounts of time to deal with heartbreak and loss of a dear one. Give yourself time. Don’t be harsh on yourself thinking you are taking too much time. There is no ‘normal’ time frame to grieve. Moving on is an inevitable human thing so give yourself time.

2. Talk about it

Don’t bottle up all your grief. Talk to someone about it. Pour out your feelings and you will see what was weighing down on your heart will start evaporating, bit by bit. Keep a support system around and relive the memories.

3. Accept it

Death is a part of life. You might not want to go through the irrevocable separation, but understand that it is natural and no one lives forever. The sooner you accept that your loved one is no more, the sooner you will be able to come to terms with it.

4. Get help

If you think that nothing is helping and you can’t deal with the sadness anymore, seek professional help. It is possible that you will be able to express yourself better to a neutral stranger than to someone else who is close to you.

5. Live your life

Losing someone very close to you does not mean you stop living your own life. Go out and do things that you like doing – it could be watching a movie or outdoor sports or even travelling. You could do something in the memory of the person you lost, like planting a tree or donating for a cause, that will honour them.
