It’s October 31 and nothing spells October fest as good as Halloween does. If you like getting the chill even on a hot day, nothing can beat the adrenaline rush that a horror movie provides. The Telugu film industry is home to many horror-comedies. So, we’ve curated a list of five underrated spine-chilling films that totally deserve your time and attention. Get your blankets, turn the lights off and let the spookfest begin.

Next Nuvve is a story about four oddballs who come together and start their hotel venture. This hotel is, in fact, a haunted and deserted bungalow. Soon after opening its door to people, the owners realise that none of the guests return alive. Initially they dig up graves and hide the corpses. But the number of deaths keep multiplying to a point where it becomes impossible for them to handle. Starring Aadi, Vaibhavi Shandilya, Brahmaji, Prithvi Raj and Posani Krishna Murali, the film will keep you hooked.

A haunted house turned into a hotel that turns into a graveyard. Sounds just about right to get you in the mood.

4. Geethanjali

This horror film, which released in 2014, never gets old.  The ghost in Geethanjali though stands out from others. All it wants is food. You would let it have your share of food if it left you alone. But what happens when four people fight with a ghost over food? This one-of-a-kind film features Anjali, Srinivas Reddy, Raghu Babu, Rao Ramesh and Brahmanandam.

What’s more important? Making peace with a deathly ghost or survival that can be normal? This Halloween, make sure you’re not tricked.

Anando Brahma

A deserted village. A haunted villa. Hundreds of ghost stories. A tired homeowner and desperate buyers. When new tenants come over to spend a few days in the haunted villa, the blank walls become a canvas for the film. In an attempt to establish themselves as superior beings, we see a scary ‘fight’ between humans and ghosts. Watch Anando Brahma starring Taapsee Pannu, Vennela Kishore and Srinivas Reddy.

Kanam is a horror film which leaves you with some food for thought. A young couple, Tulasi and Krishna, at the age of 19, find out that Tulasi is pregnant. Regardless of her efforts, she is forced to abort the child. Five years later, the couple walks down the aisle and looks forward to their new life. However, their marriage opens the doors to the death of many family members. It features Sai Pallavi and Naga Shaurya.

Amaravathi is the film that changed the course of story-telling in TFI. It revolves around a sadist-psychopath who steals embryos of pregnant women. After a series of mysterious events that take place in the city, a Special Task Force is created by the police to find out the cause and nab the criminal. What does the criminal do with those embryos and why does he steal them? Do the cops finally nab him? Answers to these questions form the crux of the film.

The movie is written and directed by Ravi Babu who also acts as the leading police officer of the STF. Bhumika Chawla, Sneha, Taraka Ratna and others comprise the rest of the cast.
