5 Savoury Seafood Recipes From Rannaghar That You Can Rustle Up In Your Kitchen

1. Tawa Crab Fry

If tasty, meaty and succulent seafood is your idea of what a perfect meal should have, we bring you five recipes from the Bengali cookery show Rannaghar that you will be sure to love when you prepare them in your kitchen. Including exotic favourites like crab, prawn and bhetki fish, do try out these dishes that will leave everyone licking their fingers!

To make Tawa Crab Fry, heat mustard oil in a tawa (skillet) and put in whole red chillies, whole garam masala, ginger paste and crabs fried in turmeric and salt, nutmeg, pepper and stir well. Sprinkle crushed parsley and coriander leaves and the dish is ready.

2. Safed Bhetki

To make this delicious Safed Bhetki, fry dry whole chillies in refined oil in a pan and add whipped plain yoghurt, cashew nut paste, poppy seed and ginger paste and a bit of water. Mix well and add salt to taste, sugar and ground pepper, and the gravy is ready. To make the bhetki, add chopped garlic, the gravy, salt and pieces of fried bhetki fish to some refined oil, and stir well. Serve hot!

3. Green Pomfret

To make the gravy first, add crushed coriander leaves, chilli flakes, garlic paste, ginger paste, coriander paste, mint leaf paste, salt and sugar to some mustard oil, and stir well on a flame. Add chopped coriander leaves, crushed cumin, water, chopped parsley and cook till reduced. In a separate pan, add mustard oil, red and green chilli, chopped garlic, the gravy, water, and 2 whole fried pomfret fish, chopped coriander leaves and stir. Take off the heat and enjoy!

4. Lau Patay Chingri Posto

Fry some prawns with oil, salt and turmeric and keep aside. In the same oil, add black cumin seeds, split chillies, chopped tomatoes, gourd leaves (lau pata), salt and stir. Add some pasted gourd leaves, diced and fried potatoes, posto, the fried prawns, sugar to taste, mustard powder mixed with water, chopped coriander and stir. Add raw mustard oil, steam with the lid on for a minute and it’s ready to eat!

5. Phulkoli Chingri

To make Phulkoli Chingri, first sprinkle turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt on some prawns and mix well. In a bowl, take some besan, salt, red chilli powder, water and mix. Coat the marinated prawns in this batter and fry. Take out the prawns and keep aside. In the same oil, add chopped spring onions, chopped onion, salt, chopped chillies, julienned ginger, tomato sauce, sugar, chilli sauce, soy sauce and cook together. Add a bit of water and reduce the gravy. Add the fried prawns, toss together and take off the flame. Yum!
