1. The story of Bombay

Most Maharashtrians and Mumbaikars know of ‘Maharashtra Day,’ which is celebrated on May 1. But very few are aware of the history of Bombay, now called Mumbai, and the sacrifices it took for the creation of Maharashtra as a separate state. ZEE5’s original Marathi series Hutatma, tells the story of the Samyukta movement. Above everything else, Hutatma is a tale that needs to be watched for awareness and gratitude.

2. The star-studded cast

With a cast including the likes of Mohan Agashe, Sachin Khedekar, and Vikram Gokhale, one can only expect magic. The show also has upcoming talent such as Anjali Patil, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi among others so you can expect some power-packed performances coming your way.

3. History and fiction

What makes Hutatma intriguing is that it isn’t merely a representation of events from the Samyukta movement but also a fictional tale. While the series focuses on true events from history, it presents the narrative with a fictional story of Vidyut (Anjali Patil), a girl seeking revenge for the death of her father. It is through her personal journey that we come to know the history of Maharashtra.

4. Interpersonal relationships

Aside from focusing on historic events, Hutatma also highlights interpersonal relationships. It sheds light on how the movement affects personal equations and how each individual deals with the challenges that crop up. The series is a tear-jerker in parts, so make sure you keep some tissues handy.

5. Back in time

Hutatma is set in the 1950s, and what’s fascinating to watch is that the series captures the era perfectly. The makers have done a swell job in making that time believable. The set up seems authentic, which further adds weight to the narrative.
