Mukesh actively participated in Kerala politics and is currently an MLA representing the Kollam constituency. His victory in the constituency elections of 2016 kickstarted his political career.

The actor married film actress Saritha in 1988 after a lot of gossip around the couple’s name. They separated in 2011 and Mukesh later married renowned dancer Methil Devika in 2013.
