13 Killed After Police Raid Illegal Party In Peru
An illegal party was raided by the police in Peru, resulting in a stampede killing at least 13 people
A birthday celebration ended up in a nightmare for its guests, when the police raided a nightclub at the Peruvian capital of Lima. As the police arrived at the Thomas Restobar Club, the party-goers panicked and started running through a single exit narrow stairway, which resulted in a stampede killing 13 people and injuring another 6 people, including three police personnel.
The party that was attended by more than 120 people, flouted all the guidelines of COVID19. 23 people attending the illegal celebration have been detained by the authorities.
Peru had imposed a night curfew in March, after a surge in the number of infections. With little respite, the government implemented its coronavirus rules again with a ban on large gatherings.
According to the interior ministry, no weapons or tear gas was used by the security personnel and the incident was a result of the attendees getting trapped and crushed in the stairway.
With 5,76,000 cases and 27,000 deaths, the Latin American country is one of the hardest hit by COVID19.
