As a rather eventful year comes to an end, Google announced its ‘Year in Search’ results for India and it’s just as surprising as 2020. The list shows the events, people, and moments that captured India’s attention in 2020. The list which is completely based on the number of Google searches Indians did had coronavirus on top 2, unsurprisingly.

While the virus which caused a pandemic was the most searched in several other parts of the world, it was pushed to second most searched word in India. Surprisingly, Indian’s curiosity about the Indian Premier League bagged the first position as most searched of 2020. The US elections was yet another entry while the Bihar elections and Delhi elections did not it make the list.
Arnab Goswami, Harshad Mehta, and PM Narenda Modi were popular people searched most by Indians. Even though late actor Sushant Singh Rajput didn’t make it to the list despite being the talking point in the country for months, his last movie, Dil Bechara emerged as the top trending movie of 2020, followed by Tamil star Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru. Actors Amitabh Bachchan, Kangana Ranaut and Rhea Chakraborthy were other popular names searched.
In a more useful to common masses section, the ‘How to’ and ‘What is’ lists included ‘How to make paneer?’ and ‘How to increase immunity?’. Dalgona coffee and Binod were the other sensations as the internet culture induced youth sent the two items viral. As the country spent a big part of year in lockdown, food shelters and Covid test centers also made the search list.
