Women’s T20 Challenge: Velocity Skipper Mithali Raj Talks About Being In a Bio-Bubble
As the Women’s T20 World Cup kick-starts today, Velocity skipper Mithali talks about the Bio bubble.
The Women’s T20 challenge, which started from today, will end on November 9, 2020, in UAE’s Sharjah. In a press conference before the matches, Mithali Raj spoke about how staying quarantined with the team was difficult for everyone. She also spoke about the T20 World Cup she played at.
As cricket tournaments have started taking place since a few months now, the team and the coaches are kept in quarantine. They cannot get in touch physically with anybody outside the bubble as a preventive measure against Coronavirus. Mithali, who is the skipper of Velocity team, in a pre-match press conference said that it is very difficult to not interact with the teammates and stay confined in their own rooms. She added, “Bio-bubble does not give us the space to interact with our team members. It is very new and anything which is new is very challenging.”
Earlier this year, she played at the Women’s T20 World Cup where they reached till the finals but couldn’t survive against Australia. Talking about the performance in the prestigious tournament, she said that it was a good experience to play at the finals of T20 World Cup with the Indian team in a packed stadium at MCG. However, she was a little disappointed as they could not pass the final hurdle and lost the game.
She added that the team thought that they weren’t good enough to play for a long time but they have overcome this apprehension since 2016. According to her, the Indian team is a very serious contender in every format.
She also spoke about the youngsters playing with her. She said that Shafali Verma is extremely talented. They have a couple of young players who have a platform that gives them exposure to interact with many international stars. They get a chance to prepare themselves for the future. She said, “You just take it one day at a time, playing back-to-back games is a challenge as recovery time is less, it’s important to get game time behind us, we are here to play the best standard of cricket, it is about enjoying the platform, everybody would want to be a part of this tournament.”
The teams playing in the Women’s T20 Challenge are Velocity, Trailblazers and Supernova. In the opening game today, winners of last year Supernova will be playing against Velocity.
