Why Is MS Dhoni Not Allowed To Train At Ahmedabad’s Motera Stadium?
MS Dhoni is not a part of the BCCI central contracts, making him ineligible for the training camp
The final pieces of the jigsaw puzzle are being put into place as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) works towards the resumption of the sport in the country. While it seems like the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be the first tournament featuring Indian players post the COVID-19 outbreak, Virat Kohli and Co. are set to regroup in a training camp after four months of inactivity. A question that many are asking is whether MS Dhoni will be a part of the camp? The answer to which is no. Dhoni has been away from Indian cricket for more than a year now.
The camp that is being held, reportedly in Ahmedabad’s Motera Stadium, is only for the BCCI contracted players. As per the 2019-20 contract, the former Indian skipper is not a part of the BCCI central contracts. This makes him ineligible for the training camp. Not having played international cricket for the past 12 months, Dhoni is not expected to be a part of the 2021-22 BCCI central contracts either. Hence, his inclusion in the camp, at least on technical grounds, is not possible.
