The show La Llorona: A Longing for Goodbye held on Saturday 31 October, took on a new meaning this year. It recounted the heartbreak of not being able to say goodbye, which was the experience of many who lost loved ones to the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the actors stated that this was something that most people have lived through during the pandemic. Not getting to see the deceased ones, not being able to send them off with a last kiss and all the rites that are important, to say goodbye with music and the food they liked.

Another actor spoke about the challenges that they had to face while planning the show. He said that it was one of his biggest challenges, both in putting on the show and being backstage. Because of the restrictions, they had to change plans, change movements on stage and maintain distance when some scenes had more interaction. The temperature of the attending audience was checked upon arrival and the flat bottoms seats were limited to 12 people each.

One of the spectators said that the show referenced the current scenario we’re living through of people who are dying and taken away and how people didn’t get a chance to say goodbye and show how they felt for the deceased. He said that the show reflected the powerlessness, helplessness caused by not being able to say goodbye to the people we love.
