Bellam Thalikalu

Our first suggestion is the good old Bellam Thalikalu. Most of us have grown up eating it, only once in a year. The thalikalu is a thick noodle-like preparation made by mixing wheat or rice flour. A pinch of cardamom powder in the jaggery syrup makes this dish complete. You can always choose to sprinkle some roasted nuts and seeds if you want to make it even more rich and special.

There are several versions of Puliohra, differing from region to region. But this is one dish that all South Indians swear by. While you can make it anytime and anywhere, the combination of tangy and spiciness of Pulihora makes it the perfect main course for any festival. Add some sesame powder and roasted peanuts if you enjoy a good crunch.

Paala Undrallu

Yet another Vinayaka Chavithi special is Paala Undrallu. This dish is a dessert that is made with milk, rice flour, coconut, sesame seeds. Although high in calories and this dish is low in fat content. Paala Undrallu is said to be Lord Ganesh’s favourite sweet dish and that is why it is made as a special naivedyam.

Kudumulu are the savoury version of undrallu. Made from semolina and chickpea flour, this festive preparation is tasty and completely healthy as it is steam cooked. It barely takes any time and effort, so if you’re not the one to spend too much time in the kitchen, this is the perfect dish for you to try your hands on.

Bobbatlu are the common-most dish in the list. We often turn to this mildly sweet dish when we feel like bringing about a change to our taste palate. Some jaggery, mashed chickpeas and some chapati-making skills are all one needs to make this perfect dish.
