US Pledges To Send 80 Million Doses Of COVID-19 Vaccine Overseas To Fight Pandemic

While the US aims to vaccinate 160 million people by July 4, the Biden administrations will also be sending 80 million doses of vaccine to other countries fighting the pandemic.

US President Joe Biden made an announcement on 17th May that Washington will be sending 80 million COVID-19 vaccine jabs to various countries across the world in the coming months. The White House mentioned that in six weeks, 20 million doses will be sent globally. The doses will come from the existing stocks of Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson vaccine stocks.

In the statement, Joe Biden said, “By the end of June, when we’ll have taken delivery of enough of such vaccines to protect everyone in the United States, the United States will share at least 20 million doses of those doses — that extra supply — with other countries”.

As the domestic demand for vaccines has dropped significantly over the past few weeks in the US, this would be the first time that the US-controlled doses which were authorized for use within the country will be shared overseas.
