US Elections: Donald Trump Hits Campaign Trail During Democratic Convention
US President made trips to swing states of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Ahead of the impending 2020 Presidential Elections in the US, Donald Trump has hit the campaign trail, with dual trips to the swing states of Minnesota and Wisconsin. His visit, however, comes during the Democratic National Convention, stating a clear counter-message to his likely adversary, Joe Biden. His decision to campaign during the Democratic National Convention is an unusual one. Presidential candidates tend to lie low during their opposition’s nomination events as a sign of respect. But Trump’s presidency has been marked by such deviations from established norms.
In Minnesota, Trump took aim at rival Joe Biden, saying that he’s a “puppet of left-wing extremists” and painted a dark picture of his opponent’s proposals on immigration, health care and the economy. Joe Biden became the presumptive Democratic nominee after Bernie Sanders suspended his campaign in April. The Democratic National Convention is where delegates will formally elect him as the Democratic Presidential Candidate. Biden has chosen Kamala Harris to be his running mate during the campaign leading up to the November vote.
