Eight member nations of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) have urged Myanmar to ensure that the Rohingyas are able to participate in the general elections. According to the news reports, the elections in Myanmar are scheduled to be held on November 8. This will be only the second election after the end of military rule in 2011. Belgium, France, the United States of America, Dominican Republic, Germany, Tunisia, Estonia, and the United Kingdom have issued a joint statement appealing Myanmar to include the Rohingyas in the upcoming elections. Moreover, the UNSC member nations have called for an immediate end to hostilities.
The member nations have also asked Myanmar to carry out a bilateral dialogue with Bangladesh to find a solution to the Rohingya refugee problem. The countries are also supporting Myanmar in fighting the novel Coronavirus pandemic before the upcoming elections.
