On Thursday, October 8 Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan died in a Delhi hospital. Paswan was aged 74. According to the news reports, the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution was not keeping well for a few weeks. Political leaders across the nation paid their grievances towards the senior Dalit leader from Bihar. BJP leader Giriraj Singh said that the death of Ram Vilas Paswan is a big loss to the nation. He was one of the designated political leaders who worked with many prime ministers and served as India’s mines, steel, telecommunication and information minister.

As a Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Paswan oversaw one of the world’s biggest food welfare programme. Sources state that under this programme the government provides food grains like rice and wheat at cheaper rates to millions of poor people in India.
