The Jammu and Kashmir government converted the Trauma hospital into a COVID centre recently for Coronavirus positive patients who are also expecting a baby. The place has been installed with the various necessary equipment and special attention is being given to people of LSES. The hospital currently has 100 beds and is providing relief to every pregnant patient that arrives.
Dr BS Tulla, Medical Superintendent at the Trauma hospital spoke about the new development and why they decided to convert the place on short notice. He said, “This Trauma centre is a 100-bed hospital. Unfortunately, before it was made operational, COVID came in so we have to convert it into COVID hospital. At present, we only admit COVID positive pregnant patients who will give delivery or has LSES. It is the very first hospital of South Kashmir where LSES is done for COVID positive patients. This is of 100 beds, we have ventilators and oxygen concentrators and oxygen plant are under construction.”
Locals have also been quite relieved with the conversion of the Trauma hospital as many places did not have enough facilities around the area. The husband of a COVID positive patient, Sajad Ahmad spoke about how they had been worried initially but found a way through this new COVID centre. He said, “This is a very good initiative as it offers convenience to the patients. If this hospital hadn’t been converted, they would have definitely sent us to Srinagar and we do not know about the treatment we would receive there as earlier, we had seen that they don’t even touch such patients. We are very thankful to God that they admitted my wife here.”
