Tokyo Olympics 2021: Rohan Bopanna Shares An Alleged Phone Call With An AITA Official, The Feud Takes An Ugly Turn!
Sharing the telephonic conversation, Rohan Bopanna urged AITA to stop lying and blaming the players for the ongoing controversy. Also, Indian tennis legend Mahesh Bhupati extended his support to Bopanna.
The countdown for the prestigious Tokyo Olympics has begun. While the whole nation is readied to cheer up for Indian participants, the controversy surrounding the All India Tennis Association (AITA) has taken an ugly turn. Earlier, Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza had accused the Indian tennis fraternity of misleading its players on the Olympics qualifications. This led to a feud between the players and the administration of AITA. And now, Bopanna has shared an alleged phone call with AITA general secretary Anil Dhupar, hitting back at the administration.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Rohan Boppana shared a recording of his alleged telephonic conversation with Anil Dhupar. Wherein Dhupar claims that Bopanna and Sumit Nagal can still make it into Olympics as a pair. Sharing the conversation, Bopanna urged AITA to stop lying and blaming the players for the controversy. Indian tennis legend Mahesh Bhupati backed Bopanna as he noted the change in AITA’s attitude over the last few years.
For those unversed, Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza had bashed the AITA for wrongly claiming that it had registered Bopanna and Sumit Nagal as a pair for Tokyo Games. Responding to the same, the AITA called their comments “baseless and misleading”. However, now this alleged conversation speaks of a different story altogether.
During the nomination period, AITA had teamed Bopanna with Divij Sharan for men’s doubles. However, they failed to qualify due to their combined rank of 113. And when Nagal entered men’s singles this year, the tennis body had hoped to pair him with Bopanna for the Tokyo games. Informing the new development to the press, AITA had confirmed the pair of Bopanna and Nagal for the Olympics.
It was just recently that Bopanna countered AITA’s claim after realizing that ITF never accepted his and Nagal’s entry. As per the ITF guidelines, no changes were allowed after the nomination deadline. “AITA has misled the players, government, media, and everyone else by stating we still have a chance,” Bopanna had tweeted.
While the tennis competition is scheduled to open on July 24, the fans are awaiting updates from the administration.
