The Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamshala is running a week-long breastfeeding awareness programme
A week-long breastfeeding awareness program is being conducted by the Department of Health, Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamshala. The World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated globally from August 1 to 7. The main objective of this programme is to educate expectant mothers about the importance and the long-term benefits of breastfeeding.
Speaking about the initiative, Choekyong Wangchuk from the Tibetan health department said that a few programs and contests were organized in the past week. Experts in the fields of documentaries and short films were invited to participate and submit their work based on the program theme.
Today, the event began with the announcement of the winners and the screening of their presentations.
From a total of 16 participants, first, second and third prizes were given to three participants, while another three received consolation prizes. Members of the health department also spoke a few words to raise awareness about the topic.
The World Breastfeeding Week is observed every year to encourage the consumption of breast milk for babies and improve their overall health. A declaration was signed in 1990 by government policy makers, World Health Organization (WHO) and other organizations to protect, promote and support breastfeeding.
