Thousands Of Farmers Protest Against Newly-Passed Farm Bill
SAD leader and Union Minister, Harsimrat Kaur Badal quit the Union Cabinet in protest against farm bills. Party leaders will stand with Modi government but will not support the bill.
On Thursday, September 17, Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha. However, the newly passed bill did not get a favorable response. Thousands of farmers in Haryana protested against these bills. Protests and rallies also took place in several other regions after the bill was passed in the Lok Sabha. Many farmers allege that the ordinances are not only against farmers but were also against the Constitution of India. Along with Congress, many other parties have also opposed the bill.
According to the news reports, NDA (National Democratic Alliance) alliance partner Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) opposed the bill. SAD leader and Union Minister, Harsimrat Kaur Badal quit the Union Cabinet in protest against farm bills. Badal said that she doesn’t cares about her resignation and would be proud to stand with the farmers of the nation. SAD members confirmed that they would continue to lend their support to the Modi government but won’t support the bill.
