A classic case of fake news through social media has come to the forefront as a video claiming to be from the government is promising women a direct transfer of money to their accounts. The now viral link initially surfaced on YouTube as an initiative called the Pradhan Mantri Nari Shakti Yojana (Prime Minister Women Empowerment Scheme).

In the video, women are asked to submit a list of documents to the bank, post which 2.20 lakh rupees will be directly transferred to their account by the Narendra Modi administration.

While many netizens were curious to know if this was a new plan from the central government to appease female voters before the Bihar and Madhya Pradesh elections, there is no such confirmation anywhere.

The website of the Ministry of Women and Child Development has not displayed any information regarding this. There has also been no announcement of this plan on mainstream media either. Additionally, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) conducted a fact-check and confirmed this as false news.
