The European Union Preps to Sue AstraZeneca Following Supply Cuts of Vaccine
The EU is currently planning to cut its ties with drug-making company AstraZeneca as it works on filing a lawsuit against it for vaccine supply cuts.
AstraZeneca recently cut its supply and delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine to the European Union. This has now led the European Commission to take legal action against AstraZeneca. This move would be a step further by the EU in cutting ties off with the drugmaker AstraZeneca, following the repeated shortage of vaccine supplies by the latter.

The European Union is currently preparing to take legal actions against AstraZeneca, the British-Swedish multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company. This has taken place following the vaccine crunch faced by the EU after AstraZeneca cut short the deliveries to them of the same. The shortage of the COVID-19 vaccine due to the supply cuts has further caused a major delay in the vaccine rollout plan of Europe. Reports quoting top EU sources said that an official who is involved in the talks with the drugmakers has confirmed the plans to sue the company AstraZeneca.
In a meeting with the EU diplomats, this matter was recently discussed on Wednesday, April 21. The majority of the EU countries were in support of suing the company, at the meeting. AstraZeneca has given out no responses on the matter yet, while Brussels sent a legal letter to the company as the initial step of the legal actions to follow. However, AstraZeneca’s deadline to respond to the legal letter expired this month. Later, an EU official confirmed that they discussed the matter with the drugmaker company in a private meeting. However, a number of outstanding questions remain to be answered by them still.
