1. Uri: The Surgical Strike

Featuring first in the list is a movie based on India’s 2016 surgical strike in Uri. Titled Uri: The Surgical Strike and starring Vicky Kaushal as Major Vihaan Singh Shergill of the Indian Army, the 2018 film talks about India’s surgical strike against militant launch pads across the LOC in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

2. Paltan

Coming straight from Border maker JP Dutta’s camp, Paltan is a 2018 action drama film starring Arjun Rampal, Sonu Sood, Harshvardhan Rane and Gurmeet Choudhary. This war drama directly draws its plotline from the 1967 Nathu La and Cho La clashes between the Indian and Chinese military.

No list of best Bollywood war films is complete without JP Dutta’s iconic creation, Border. Starring bigwigs like Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty and Akshaye Khanna, the drama tells the story of the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971. The Battle of Longewala has been portrayed with utmost detailing and attention.

4. LOC Kargil

LOC Kargil starred Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna and others in the lead. The multi-starrer film is based on the true events in Kargil war, mainly revolving around Operation Vijay.

5. Lakshya

Featuring Hrithik Roshan in the lead, Lakshya is a coming-of-age war film. Centred around the life of Karan Shergill, played by Hrithik, the movie is his journey from being a just another college goer to the Acting Captain in the Indian Armed Forces. Albeit a work of fiction, the drama did have a Kargil war background.

6. Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyo

Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo is a 2004 Hindi action drama film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Bobby Deol. The narrative talks about Major Amarjit Singh and his family who dedicate their life for the Indian army. However, in an unexpected turn of events, the Amarjit loses his son Vikramjeet. However, Vikramjeet’s son is now torn between serving the nation and his personal preferences. What will he choose?

7. Shaurya

Shaurya, released in 2008, stars Kay Kay Menon, Rahul Bose, Javed Jaffrey. It is a fictional story about Indian Army lawyers Major Siddhant Chaudhary and Akash Kapoor who find themselves on the opposite sides of a case where Captain Khan kills his commanding officer Major Rathod. Will they get to the root of the case and unveil the truth?
