Sunburn Fest Amid COVID-19: Goa Health Minister Harps On The Importance Of SOPs

Sunburn is one of the biggest music festivals that take place in India. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, everything was put on hold and people were confined to stay at home this year. However, with everything getting back to normal slowly, Sunburn music festival was declared to take place on 27, 28 and 29 December. Recently, in a press conference organised on November 6 in Panaji, Goa health minister Vishwajit Rane spoke about this year’s Sunburn festival.
Goa health minister, Vishwajit Rane mentioned that with stringent Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) anything can be possible in today’s conditions including Sunburn music festival. He also stated that these SOPs are managed by respective collectors and properly monitored. It is necessary to have stringent SOPs. Talking about the 3-day festival, he said that he is prepared with his systems being in place and there are several SOPs that are managed by different bodies within the government bodies. Rane strongly made a statement that everything cannot be managed by the health minister. He reiterated his statement and said that in such events stringent SOPs and a proper monitoring system is very necessary.
Sunburn is organised in Goa since 2007. The music festival has an artist lineup, including the DJs who would play for the audience and entertain them. Sunburn is also organised in Mumbai for a long time now. Sunburn 2020 guidelines were provided by the organisers through an announcement on their official social media handles. The tickets of the same were made available on BookMyShow from 4 November. Sunburn is scheduled to happen at Vagator beach, Goa.

In the official announcement, it was mentioned that 20% of the total music festival capacity would be operating this time in 2020. The social distancing norms would be followed with every attendee having a designated space in front of the main stage. Entry and exit protocols would be kept in check to ensure a safe passage. The conditions also included the Aarogya Setu app check/scan and thermal scanning. No box office and minimal contact entry were also ensured by the authorities organising Sunburn.
