Star Indian Sprinter Hima Das Out Of Tokyo Olympics Due To Injury, Vows To Make A ‘Strong Comeback’

Last month, Hima Das had sustained a hamstring injury in 100m heats during the National Inter-State Athletics Championships. While Hima is still recovering from the injury, she had to pull out of the Tokyo games.

Though being delayed due to the pandemic, the Tokyo Olympics will now initiate from July 23, 2021. And with an abundance of hope, the strong Indian side is eager to represent the nation in this prestigious game. However, unfortunately, Indian sprinter Hima Das will miss out on playing her first Olympics due to an injury. Talking about it, the star athlete vowed to make a strong comeback in major events coming next year. 

For those unaware, last month, Hima had sustained a hamstring injury in 100m heats during the National Inter-State Athletics Championships. While Hima is still recovering from the injury, she had to pull out of the Tokyo games. “I will miss my first Olympics due to untimely injury when I was close to achieve the qualification standard in my new event 100m and 200m,” the star sprinter stated on Twitter. Also, she thanked her coaches, teammates, and staff for their continuous support.

Furthermore, Hima promised to make a great comeback in the major events scheduled for the year. “I will make a strong comeback and looking forward to Commonwealth Games 2022, Asian Games 2022, and World Championship 2022. 2022,” her post read.

Hima emerged as the ‘star sprinter’ after bagging the 400m gold in World Junior Championships in Finland in the year 2018. Also, the same year at the Asian Games, she won an individual 400m silver. In team events, she was also a part of the gold-winning women’s 4x400m relay and mixed 4x400m relay.

Coming back to the Tokyo Games, the countdown has begun for the world’s biggest sporting event. The delayed games will now begin following all the necessary Covid protocols. Representing India, many first-timers and experienced players are geared up for the games. Some of the favourites include Mary Kom, Manu Bhaker, Saurabh Chaudhary, Bajrang Punia and few others.
