Come October 22, diehard fans of Sir Elton Hercules John aka Reginald Kenneth Dwight have a Lockdown bonanza coming their way.

A Tweet from the Grammy-winning artist announcing his new album, aptly titled ‘The Lockdown Sessions’ has only heightened one’s expectation.

The tweet says, “The last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album but here it is. Thank you to everyone who came together to make it happen. The last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album but here it is. Thank you to everyone who came together to make it happen. I can’t wait for you all to hear ‘The Lockdown Sessions’ when it’s released on 22 October, but for now, preorder it from today.”

What makes this album special is that it features some of the biggest names from the music industry. The cover that features Sir Elton wearing a mask with the words ‘ELTON’ inscribed on it also features the 16 tracks featured in the album, including 10 unreleased tracks. Sir Elton roped in an ensemble of reputed and upcoming artists namely Miley Cyrus, Young Thug, Charlie Puth, Lil Nas X, Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj, Stevie Wonder, and Stevie Nicks for this album.

A similar post on Instagram announcing the album release from the Rocket Man singer has got the fans really worked up and they just can’t wait to lay their hands on one and hear it. Lockdown saw the artists handle some of the recording sessions remotely, via Zoom. If this was something that he had not done before, Sir Elton said the other sessions were recorded with some stringent safety sessions in place, such as glass separating the artists.

This album also took Sir Elton to the start of his career, in the late 60s, where he worked as a session musician. “Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that. I’d come full circle. I was a session musician again. And it was a blast,” his Instagram post read.

The legendary singer also paid tribute to his fellow singers and thanked them for giving him so much fun. “And to have fun during lockdown is a privilege,” Sir Elton, who is currently preparing for his ‘Elton John Farewell Yellow Brick Road: The Final Tour’ in the run-up to his retirement, said. This tour will start in Copenhagen, Denmark on September 28.
